How we choose sources
Each side of a story links to one source. We look for the outlet or primary document that makes that side’s case most clearly and fairly, not the most inflammatory take.
What we look for
- Primary sources where possible: court rulings, government releases, official statements.
- Established outlets whose audience holds that view, so readers see the argument as its supporters make it.
- Articles published in the past week that we have read in full.
- A source label that always matches the outlet the link goes to.
Lean labels
Next to each source we show its media bias rating from AllSides Media Bias Ratings™ (Left, Lean Left, Center, Lean Right, Right). Government documents are marked “Primary source”, and outlets AllSides hasn’t rated are marked “Not rated by AllSides”. A rating describes the outlet overall, not the specific article.
